What backing yourself really looks like…

I'm often asked by the women I mentor how I found the confidence to start my own business. And the truth is, I didn't feel confident at all.

One of the things that got me through those early days was a bit of feedback from a manager early in my career. They told me I had a way with people that couldn't be taught, and I held onto that for years. Sometimes backing yourself is less about feeling sure and more about borrowing someone else's belief in you until you've built your own.

I'm currently mentoring my 5th mentee through Women in Transport, and every single one of them has reminded me how much it matters to have someone in your corner. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I can be the person who keeps showing up, the way so many people in my network did and still do for me.

So, if you're waiting to feel ready before you back yourself - please don't. Ready rarely comes before action - it tends to come after.
